SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Peter Waithaka is a senior lecturer in the School of Pure Applied and Health Sciences (Department of Physical and Biological Sciences) at Murang’a University of Technology. Dr. Waithaka joined the University in October 2015. He is has served as as an acting CoD in the Department Physical and biological sciences and is currently the Director (Research Innovation and Consultancy)

He holds a Ph.D in Inorganic Chemistry from Kenyatta University awarded in 2014. Dr. Waithaka graduated with MSc. Chemistry in 2008 from Kenyatta University which focused on Natural products. He is also a holder of a Bed. (Science) from Kenyatta University where he specialized in Chemistry. He is a member of the Kenya Chemical Society. Dr. Waithaka is trained in environmental Impact Assessment and environmental audit. He is a registered (EIA&EA) lead auditor. He is also trained in Leadership and Corporate Governance,

Dr. Waithaka has made numerous contributions to as a research in chemistry and related fields. He has helped in the development of several curriculum including BSc. Analytical chemistry. Industrial chemistry, MSc. Chemistry, PhD Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, among others. He has authored several publications in the field of chemistry in peer reviewed journals. Dr Waithaka is an innovator who has patented two innovations. He has supervised students at both MSc. and PhD levels.

Dr. Waithaka has attracted research funds and has two ongoing research projects focusing on water quality, natural antimicrobial products and environmental protection. He is also leading in the implementation of Analytical and Imaging laboratory funded by NRF.

Inorganic chemistry, mining chemistry, inorganic synthesis, food chemistry, computational chemistry industrial chemistry and Natural products.
