SHORT BIOGRAPHY

John Mutuguta is an Ass. Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science. He is currently serving as the chairman of the department. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics of Moi University. His area of specializing is in modeling and analysis of infectious disease transmission in human population structured in space.

Between 2015 and 2017, he served as the examination officer in the Department of Applied Sciences. He then served as the University Timetabling Officer between the years 2017 and 2019 before being appointed the acting chairman of the department of mathematics and actuarial science in November 2019. He graduated with Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Chemistry of the University of Nairobi in the year 2000 and Master of Science in Applied Mathematics of Kenyatta University in the year 2010. He worked as a mathematics lecturer at Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology, National Youth Service Engineering Institute, Kenya Railway Institute and Kenya Institute of Mass Communications. He has also worked as a part-time lecturer at Moi University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Karatina University and Technical University of Kenya.

His research interest is in the field of Applied Mathematics specializing in modeling infectious disease transmission with spatial structure. The objective of his research has been to improve the understanding of the transmission mechanism of infectious diseases in a general population structured in space with the aim of advising the health control practitioners about the optimal disease control strategy.

He spearheaded the development of the curricula for Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics and Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics with Programming where he was a team leader. He was also a member of the team that developed the curricula for BSc in actuarial science and MSc. in Statistics at Murang’a university of Technology.
