Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

One must have:

  1. Must have passed KCSE at a minimum average grade of C+ and at least C+ in English. In addition, the candidate must have passed Mathematics at KCSE with a minimum grade of C+, OR
  2. Have a minimum of 2 principal passes, including Mathematics, at Advanced Level/ KACE (Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education), OR
  3. Have a Diploma in Mathematics and Economics from an institution recognized by the University senate

Four (4) Academic Years

GOAL OF THE PROGRAMME

Actuarial Science is a discipline that applies Mathematical and Statistical methods to assess risks in insurance, finance and other industries and professions. The course is designed to provide broad training in the basic mathematics underlying the operations of private and social insurance and employee benefit plans.

CAREER PROGRESSION 

Students who complete their undergraduate education in Actuarial Science at a satisfactory level may pursue graduate studies such as a Master of Science in Actuarial science, Finance, Statistics etc and may progress to doctoral program in any of these fields.

Students may also register in one Actuarial body or society and pursue the Actuarial exams e.g. one by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA: UK) and the Society of Actuaries (SOA: USA)

COMMON CAREERS FOR GRADUATES ARE:

Banking, Insurance, Multinationals with risk departments, Universities, Research institution, Government, Investment firms, one can also pursue entrepreneurship and offer actuarial services.
