MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Minimum entry requirements for a course leading to a similar award in Kenya, or equivalent qualifications and experience as prescribed in the admission criteria of the university.
Applicants for recognition of Master’s Degree qualifications must meet the following:
- Must have taken Statistics as a major subject in the first degree.
- Hold a Bachelor of Science degree at least at lower second-class honors from a recognized university. In case of second class lower with honors, one should have at least two years relevant work experience.
DURATION OF STUDY
Two (2) Academic Years
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon successful completion of the prescribed course of study, the Master of Science in Statistics graduates will have acquired knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to effectively undertake research in environmental related fields. The course work shall be taken along with research and Thesis work for cognitive and theoretical understanding of the area of specialization in Statistics.
GOAL OF THE PROGRAMME
- Apply theoretical understanding, professional judgment and skills in mitigation of statistical problems.
- Apply theoretical understanding, professional judgment and skills in data collection, analysis and interpretations.
- Formulate and implement solutions to problems of sustainable development, through the use of analytical skills and theoretical knowledge.
- Make meaningful contributions to improving legal and administrative structures and processes relevant to sustainable development and environmental management.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAMME
- To nurture and build students and staff professionally for purposes of achieving educational development of the people and the National vision of an industrialized nation by the year 2030 and beyond in a safe environment.
- To offer a holistic approach in the field of Statistics.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Obligation of the student.
- The student is required to attend at least two thirds of all lectures and complete at least 18 units to qualify for graduation. A student may take extra units over and above the required number of units. A student may also choose units subject to the approval of the department.
Obligation of the Lecturer.
- Lecturers are obliged to attend classes, give at least 2 continuous assessment tests (CATs) and a final examination. They are also expected to mark, grade and return the scripts to the Departmental Examinations coordinator on time for onward processing of the results by the University Senate.
