MINIMUN ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Holders of a Bachelor’s degree from Murang’a University of Technology of at least Upper Second-Class Honours in Biological Sciences, Biosciences, Agriculture, or Environmental sciences with at least one unit passed in Ecology, Conservation Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Wildlife Ecology or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized by Murang’a University of Technology Senate and the Commission of University Education (CUE).
- Under exceptional circumstances a holder Holders of Lower Second-Class Honours Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences, Agriculture or Environmental sciences with at least one unit passed in Ecology or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Murang’a University of Technology Senate. In addition, the candidate must have at least two years of documented relevant work and/or research experience.
REGISTRATION
A candidate, who qualifies to enter the programme as specified in the entry requirements above, can register with the University to undertake the Master of Science in Applied Ecology & Environmental Management. Registration is done by payment of fees and completing the necessary University forms as detailed in the University fees structure and registration regulations provided in the Students Information Handbook.

GOAL OF THE PROGRAMME
To offer a flexible training program at the master’s level that provides interdisciplinary skills in decision-making in the areas of applied ecology and environment management, and to perform research that provides hands-on applied field experience for students.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Demonstrate knowledge on Ecological principles of population and environment management and control.
- Demonstrate knowledge on social and economic dimensions of policy and management and their evaluation
- Formulate and test hypotheses using appropriate experimental design and statistical analysis of data
- Integrate and evaluate information.
- To prepare MSc. Ecology & Environment Management students for doctoral studies
- To equip students with a range of skills, including problem solving, research work and presentation, to enable them to take prominent roles in a wide spectrum of employment and research
- Communicate efficiently to an audience of multidisciplinary nature and to prepare technical documents and to present effectively
STUDENT ASSESSMENT
a) Continuous Assessment
Continuous assessments shall normally comprise of tests, assignments, oral presentations and practicals. Continuous assessments shall contribute 40% of the total course marks.
b) End of Semester Examinations
- Ordinary university examinations shall be conducted at a time and in the format prescribed by the university senate
- Written Ordinary University Examinations shall contribute 60% of the total course marks.
MODE OF DELIVERY
The programme shall be offered through face to face, Blended and E-learning (online) modes.
